An important step had been made: The Human Rights Centre at the Law School of Central South University and linked to it the group Human Rights: Universal Global is are listed as ESCR Actors on the UN Human Rights Knowledge Gateway. With this a wider recognition of the work, also on the high level representation is reached. — Thanks to those colleagues who made this possible through the dedicated engagement!!
On this occasion a remark on recognition of the work is appropriate. As HRUG we have different channels through wich our work is communicated: it is the HRUG-website and blog, the YouTube channel and specifically Chinese websites where the recordings are made available. In addition, updates on those sites are made known via personal and/or institutional websites of group members, their LinkedIn accounts and the like. Interesting is that for instance the statistics shown for YouTube recordings are in fact not the numbers that reflect access to the videos. For instance, if videos are accessed via LinkedIn this does not show up on the YouTube statistics etc.
Though this does not mean that the work reaches the numbers that are (supposedly) reached by major influencers, the work finds a remarkable recognition. In fact, the aim of HRUG is to contributed to a differentiated debate — the aim is to leave the presentation of platitudes to others. There is this common phrase of “thinking outside of the box”; metaphorically it can also be said that the important part are the debates, outside of and beyond slide presentations. Slides are admittedly a tool, suitable for the presentation of information — but not more. Knowledge can only be reached by exchange and open discussion, and this is the ultimate aim of HRUG and in this light the listing on the UN Human Rights Knowledge Gateway is a major success.
