Competing AI Futures: The United States and China’s Strategic Visions

On November 28, 2025, the HRUG regular seminar on “Competing AI Futures: The United States and China’s Strategic Visions” was successfully held. The seminar was lectured by Dr. Ali Al-Assam (Founder of the Al-Mushtarak Platform, Member of Friends of Socialist China), and chaired by Professor Joe Finnerty from University College Cork, Ireland. Professor Peter Herrmann and Associate Professor Li Juan (two researchers of CSU Human Rights Center), and Dr. Yue Zhao (Scientific Director of the Surgical Research Laboratory at the University of Cologne Medical School, Germany) participated in the seminar and joined the discussions. Focusing on the AI strategic plans of China and the United States, the seminar conducted an in-depth exploration of the far-reaching impacts of AI on the global landscape, and then called for promoting AI international cooperation to benefit all humanity.

The Challenge of Human Rights in an Age of Climate Change

On October 31, 2025, the HRUG regular seminar on “The Challenge of Human Rights in an Age of Climate Change” was successfully held. The seminar was lectured by Tunahan Ali Usta (a PhD candidate in Political Science at the Middle East Technical University, Turkey), and chaired by Joe Finnerty (a Policy Analyst at the School of Applied Social Studies, University College Cork, Ireland). Professor Peter Herrmann (a researcher of CSU Human Rights Center), Professor Mehmet Okyayuz of Political Science at the Middle East Technical University, Associate Professor Li Juan (a researcher of CSU Human Rights Center), and Dr. Ali Al-Assam (Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and Industry, Member of Friends of Socialist China) participated in this seminar and engaged in the discussion. The seminar focused on climate change and human rights challenges, analyzed the significant impacts of climate change on the environment, migration, and human rights, and called for advancing climate justice through strengthening international cooperation and improving laws.
